Results from the coproscopical examination showed N. Eight major parasites were identified with their prevalences as follows Ancylostoma caninum 41.5% (n=166), Toxocara canis 23% (n=92), Dipylidium caninum 14.8% (n=59) Strongyloides stercoralis 6% (n=24), Trichuris vulpis 4.8% (n=19), Necator americanus 3% (n=12), Fasciola species 1.5% (n=6), Echinococcus species 1.3% (n=5). Out of the total 400 dog's faecal samples examined, 73.3% (n=293) were infected with one or more helminth parasite species but 107 (26.8%) samples were free (negative) from the above parasites. ![]() ![]() In this study, the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminths was analyzed in relation to age, sex and breeds as well as mixed helminth infection. Fresh faecal samples were collected randomly and parasitologically screened using macroscopic, simple floatation and centrifugal sedimentation techniques respectively. A cross sectional study was conducted between August-December, 2015 in Makurdi metropolis (Wurukum, Kanshio, North-bank and Wadata), Nigeria to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminths infection of dogs.
